Eco Juice Press
2010-10 to 2010-12
In the "Eco Design" course at the Royal Institute of Technology Me and one other student was tasked to redesign an existing juice press to be more ecologically sustainable. The solution was a simple and rigid electrical juice press, which would sit on top of a glass or pitcher. To ensure an ecological semantic the electrical parts were clearly visible and the design modular to be easy to handle in waster sorting.
During the project other solutions, like manual presses and presses made of wood or other biodegradable materials, were considered. However, as the study revealed that the most efficient way to press juice out of an orange was with an electrical juice press and that the waste of un-pressed oranges was the main contributor to CO2 emissions this solution was clearly favored.
